CT Urography with contrast

This imaging technique aids in assessing the urinary system, encompassing the ureters, kidneys, bladder, and urethra (urinary tract). By introducing a contrast dye into the vein, numerous thin-slice images of the urinary system are captured. These images are then examined by your physician to determine the proper functioning of internal structures and identify any potential signs of disease. The scan is instrumental in diagnosing various conditions, including kidney stones, bladder stones, bladder infections, kidney infections, cysts, abnormal masses such as tumors, and structural irregularities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CT scan?

A CT scan employs X-rays and computer technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of organs, bones, and other tissues. It provides more detailed information than a standard X-ray.

How long does a CT scan take?

The entire procedure typically takes between 0 to 60 minutes, depending on the specific part of the body being scanned.

What happens after the CT scan is finished?
Once the scan is completed, a radiologist will analyze the images and provide findings. Your physician will then review the report and discuss the results with you.
Why do I need the IV contrast?
It helps in enhancing all of the vascular structures on the images (i.e. liver, pancreas, kidneys).
Is a CT scan safe?
Yes, a CT scan is considered a safe imaging test. However, it involves exposure to a small dose of radiation. For most people, the potential risk is minimal compared to the life-saving benefits the scan can offer.
